What is a Tar and Chip seal driveway?

A tar and chip road "also known as a chip seal" or "Macadam paving" is installed on top of  a previously graded and compacted base or it can also be installed on top of an aging asphalt road

Tar and Chip "also known as chip seal"  or "Macadam pavement"  in the United States is used on Tar and chip driveways, parking lots, trails, ranch roads, rural or secondary roads carrying lower traffic volumes. In other countries like Australia,  and New Zealand  It is used on highways used to transport millions of pounds of product each day.

It goes on beautifully on long ranch and farm roads, driveways.  Tar and chip is a better surface for farm animals to walk on your cattle and horses will love you for it.

How is a Tar and Chip Seal road Installed?

A tar and chip road is constructed by evenly distributing a thin base of hot asphalt onto a prepared road base surface or an existing pavement and then embedding finely graded gravel into it. The gravel is evenly distributed over the hot tar, then rolled into a smooth pavement surface. A tar and chip seal pavement can optionally be sealed with a top layer, which is referred to as a fog seal or enrichment.
